Tension Escalates: NOA Accuses U.S. Of Spreading False Intelligence On Nigeria.
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, has strongly refuted former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent claim that a “Christian genocide” is underway in Nigeria, describing it as another failure of American intelligence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, Issa-Onilu made this known during the National Joint Security Press Briefing held in Abuja on Monday, November 3, 2025. He stated that the U.S. has a history of flawed intelligence assessments that have led to grave international misjudgments.
“This is not the first time U.S. intelligence has failed its people. It failed in Iraq when they claimed there were weapons of mass destruction, which turned out false. It also failed in Libya and several other cases. This, I believe, is another intelligence error,” Issa-Onilu asserted.
While acknowledging that there are indeed killings in Nigeria, the NOA boss emphasised that Trump’s accusation was based on incomplete and misleading intelligence, not a full understanding of Nigeria’s complex security dynamics.
The controversy began after Trump, in a fiery statement on his Truth Social platform, revealed that he had directed the Pentagon to consider possible military action against Nigeria, following his warning that Christianity was “facing an existential threat” in the country.
Trump declared that if the Nigerian government failed to stop the violence, any response from Washington would be “fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians.” When asked about the possibility of U.S. military involvement, he hinted that “many options” were being considered.
In response, the Nigerian presidency has proposed dialogue to ease the growing tension, while the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) convened a meeting with service chiefs to assess the situation and its diplomatic implications.
Security authorities have since called for calm and underscored the importance of maintaining Nigeria’s sovereignty while continuing collaborative efforts in counter-terrorism.
Issa-Onilu concluded by urging the media to exercise caution in reporting sensitive security matters and reiterated the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to defeating terrorism and safeguarding all citizens.
