A consultant neurosurgeon at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Dr. Tochukwu Mbanugo, has been abducted by armed men in Anambra State. The incident, which reportedly occurred near Omatha Junction, Uruagu, Nnewi, has triggered outrage within the medical community and prompted condemnation from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to sources, Dr. Mbanugo was kidnapped shortly after successfully performing several critical neurosurgical procedures, including the removal of a life-threatening brain tumour.

In a statement released on Monday, November 3, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, described the abduction as “deeply troubling and unacceptable,” highlighting that it occurred at a time when the doctor should have been safest—returning home after saving lives.

The ministry confirmed that the kidnappers later contacted some of Dr. Mbanugo’s colleagues using his phone. Authorities, including the Anambra State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and the State Vigilante Group, have been notified and are actively investigating the case.

NAUTH management is reported to be coordinating closely with security agencies, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), and other relevant stakeholders to secure the neurosurgeon’s release. Dr. Salako warned that attacks on medical specialists pose a serious threat to Nigeria’s fragile healthcare system, noting that the country has fewer than 150 practicing neurosurgeons for over 220 million citizens, far below the World Health Organization’s recommended ratio.

He condemned all forms of violence against healthcare workers, calling them “national assets working under immense pressure to save lives” and stressed that they must be protected, not targeted. The minister urged the Anambra State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to locate Dr. Mbanugo and ensure his immediate release, while reaffirming support for his family, colleagues, and the wider medical community during this crisis.

She made the announcement on Friday via her Instagram page, revealing that the union, which lasted just under three years, brought her experiences filled with lessons, tears, strength, and personal growth.

Declaring herself single, the actress also expressed gratitude to those who supported her throughout the marriage.

In her detailed post, she wrote:

“Honest Announcement!!!!

Some chapters end quietly… but they prepare you for a stronger, more beautiful story ahead.

This isn’t something I imagined sharing publicly, but life humbles, teaches, and reshapes us in unexpected ways.

After deep reflection, prayers, and honest conversations with myself and my family, I’ve chosen to speak my truth because I once shared my happiness, and I owe it to myself to share my reality too.

Before the arrival of my second child from my first marriage, which lasted less than three years, life took a different turn. It wasn’t easy — it came with lessons, tears, strength, and growth. But through it all, I held on to my faith in God, and I’ve embraced my path with grace, choosing peace, healing, and purpose for myself and my children.

Today, I stand not broken, but rebuilt. Not defeated, but refined — a stronger woman, a loving mother, and a soul still full of hope.

Behind every smile is a story. Today, I choose to hint mine: I AM SINGLE.

To everyone who has loved, prayed, supported, and stood by me, thank you. It means more than words can express to me and my beautiful daughters.

May Almighty Allah continue to guide and strengthen us all.

It’s my birth month — a season of reflection, gratitude, and new beginnings.

Welcome to my birth month fam.”
