The actor rose to fame for his portrayal of an almajiri-school teacher in the popular Arewa24 drama series Dadin Kowa, earning widespread acclaim for his compelling performances. Before his death, he had openly appealed for assistance, sharing on social media his battle with a serious health condition and requesting financial support for medical treatment.
In August 2025, Nata’ala revealed that he was battling cancer, noting that his medical expenses—including injections administered every three weeks—amounted to roughly ₦250,000, excluding additional costs for medication and hospital care. His public plea attracted international attention, leading to a notable donation of ₦27 million from the President of Niger, Abdourahamane Tchiani, to support his treatment.
Born Mata Yakubu, Nata’ala was celebrated for his portrayals of humble teachers and community figures, becoming a household name across Northern Nigeria. Colleagues and fans remember him not only for his acting talent but also for his humility and engagement with the public.
His passing has reignited discussions within the Kannywood community about the welfare of entertainers and the lack of formal support systems for actors facing serious illnesses. Tributes and condolences have poured in from fans, fellow actors, and industry stakeholders, reflecting the deep impact of his life and work.
