Tinubu’s Team Warned Presidency: Don’t Call It A Coup Yet — Insider Reveals.
Fresh revelations have surfaced on why the Federal Government adopted a restrained tone in addressing the recently uncovered plot allegedly aimed at destabilising President Bola Tinubu’s administration. According to Nivo News, the cautious approach followed legal counsel from a top member of the President’s cabinet.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Reliable security and government insiders disclosed that a senior legal adviser in the Presidency, described as one of Tinubu’s most trusted voices on constitutional and national security issues, advised against publicly referring to the case as a “coup attempt.” The advice came shortly after intelligence operatives at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) intercepted what was initially thought to be a coordinated scheme involving some military personnel and their civilian associates.
A high-ranking security official revealed that the directive from the legal team was straightforward — the government was urged to avoid using sensational terms until investigations were completed. The adviser reportedly stressed that prematurely labelling the case as a coup could trigger public panic, alert potential accomplices, and make legal prosecution more complex.
The counsel further warned that tagging the incident a coup without conclusive evidence could carry serious legal, psychological, and operational consequences for both the military and the government. Investigators were therefore instructed to gather solid proof before making any public declarations, ensuring that any eventual prosecutions would not be compromised by premature statements.
Sources noted that this cautious communication strategy was also intended to prevent possible collaborators, both within and outside the armed forces, from evading arrest once the information became public. At the time, intelligence teams were still tracing financial transactions and communication channels linked to the detained officers.
Another insider revealed that the leadership opted to discreetly monitor these networks before making arrests or public announcements, while also considering the psychological condition of some detained officers who had prior disciplinary issues.
A senior government source explained that the military’s discreet handling of the matter was designed to protect institutional integrity and maintain calm within the polity. The official added that such restraint was a deliberate and strategic choice to avoid unnecessary national tension or misinterpretations by international partners.
It was this same cautious approach that led the Defence Headquarters to initially describe the incident as cases of “indiscipline” and “professional misconduct” rather than a direct coup attempt. However, this terminology reportedly caused public confusion until later media revelations unveiled the broader scope of the investigation.
Both the Federal Government and the Defence Headquarters have since reiterated their unwavering commitment to democratic principles and constitutional governance.
