Makinde Launches Bold Aerial Security Initiative To Track Criminals In Forests
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced plans to introduce aerial surveillance as part of a broader strategy to enhance the state’s security architecture. Governor Makinde, in his monthly newsletter, described the project as a bold step toward “taking security to the skies” and addressing monitoring challenges in remote and forested areas where criminal activities often occur. He noted that the aircraft, manufactured by CETC Wuhu Diamond Aircraft Manufacturing Company in China, will significantly boost intelligence gathering and strengthen rapid-response capabilities.
“This marks a new phase in our security operations,” Makinde said, explaining that the aerial support will complement existing ground efforts by Amotekun and other law enforcement agencies in Oyo State. He added that the system is designed to detect, deter, and respond to threats before they escalate.
The governor also disclosed that local pilots from Oyo State would undergo specialized training with the aircraft manufacturer in China, describing the move as both a security measure and a skill-building opportunity for young professionals in the state. “We are ensuring that our people acquire the expertise to operate and maintain these systems, aligning with our goal of building local capacity,” he stated.
Governor Makinde further highlighted his administration’s ongoing investments in Amotekun, the police, and other security agencies through the provision of operational vehicles, advanced communication tools, and welfare support. He stressed that these efforts aim to create a safer environment and enhance coordination among security bodies.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements through the state’s toll-free emergency number, 615, emphasizing that security remains the foundation of development. “With the integration of aerial surveillance and ground operations, Oyo State will be better positioned to safeguard its borders, forests, and communities,” the governor assured.
Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging technology and community partnerships to sustain peace and security across the state.
