‘Nigeria’s Problems Are Deeper Than Religion’ – Sowore Reacts To U.S. Country Of Concern Label.
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has reacted to the United States’ designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” in response to reports of alleged attacks on Christians.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, U.S. President Donald Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, attributed the widespread killings of Christians in Nigeria to “radical Islamists.” He further stated that the United States “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening” and formally labelled Nigeria as a country of particular concern.
Sowore, speaking via his X account on Saturday, cautioned against framing Nigeria’s insecurity solely as a religious issue. He insisted that the nation’s security challenges are the result of decades of corruption, poor governance, and ineffective leadership.
The SaharaReporters publisher stressed that Nigeria’s progress depends on responsible local leadership rather than foreign intervention. He said, “Nigeria should have long been cited as a Country of Concern for its persistent failure to protect its citizens. At every level, the state has failed to safeguard vulnerable Christians, Muslims, and traditional believers alike. Children, women, students, workers, and the elderly have all suffered under the weight of corruption and illegitimate leadership.”
While expressing solidarity with Christian communities in northern states who have faced repeated attacks, Sowore highlighted that Muslim populations in the north also endure similar threats. “I recognise the pain of Christian communities in Benue, Plateau, Gombe, and Kaduna, who continue to face relentless attacks, just as Muslim populations in Katsina, Zamfara, Borno, and Yobe also need protection from marauding killers,” he said.
He added that Nigerians nationwide, afflicted by hunger, poverty, and displacement, are crying out for safety and dignity. Sowore concluded that international attention may offer temporary relief, but genuine, homegrown reforms and principled leadership are essential to ending the cycle of violence. “While international attention or special designations might bring temporary relief to some communities, the real solution lies within honest, courageous leadership that values human life and justice above politics,” he noted.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
