Nationwide Crisis Looms As Resident Doctors Begin Indefinite Strike.
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has officially embarked on an indefinite nationwide strike after the expiration of its 30-day ultimatum to the Federal Government.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the association’s president, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman, confirmed in a statement released on Saturday via the group’s handle that the industrial action became inevitable following the Federal Government’s repeated failure to fulfil its promises and implement previous agreements despite several rounds of dialogue and appeals.
Dr. Suleiman explained that the decision to down tools was taken reluctantly but became necessary due to the government’s persistent neglect of the health sector and the welfare of resident doctors. He emphasized that their demands are not politically motivated but are geared toward improving Nigeria’s collapsing healthcare system and ensuring quality care for citizens.
He stated, “We embark on this strike with a heavy heart, fully aware of the inconvenience it brings to the public. Our demands are genuine, patriotic, and focused on the survival of the nation’s health system and the well-being of every Nigerian who depends on it.”
The association highlighted major grievances, including excessive workload, poor remuneration, unpaid arrears, inadequate staffing, and lack of essential medical infrastructure—all of which, it said, directly affect patient care.
NARD stressed that an overworked and underpaid doctor cannot deliver optimal healthcare, adding that the current state of the system endangers both doctors and patients. The body called on President Bola Tinubu to personally intervene to end the crisis and rescue the nation’s healthcare system from total collapse.
Appealing to the public for understanding and support, the resident doctors urged Nigerians, civil society groups, religious leaders, and labour unions to join in demanding swift government action. “This is not a war against government,” the association stated, “but a collective struggle for a just, functional, and humane healthcare system where doctors can serve with motivation and dignity.”
The statement concluded with a call for solidarity, noting that only a healthy workforce can guarantee quality medical services for all Nigerians.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
