Femi Kuti Slams Young Artists: ‘You Buy Songs, But You Don’t Want To Learn!’.
Afrobeat icon Femi Kuti has revealed the secret behind his enduring relevance in the music industry, emphasizing the importance of originality, discipline, and consistency in music creation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a recent chat on the Afropolitan podcast, the 63-year-old veteran shared that his ability to remain at the top for over four decades stems from composing meaningful and purposeful songs. According to Nivo News, Kuti explained that artists who focus on depth rather than fleeting fame stand a better chance of sustaining long-term success.
The celebrated musician advised younger artists to develop their craft and resist the temptation of buying songs or relying solely on quick hit singles. He cautioned that such shortcuts could lead to a decline in their careers as they grow older.
“When the head is not correct, nothing can be accurate,” Kuti remarked when asked what he believed was affecting the Nigerian music industry. “I like what young artists are doing, but what happens when they turn 50? The reason I still have respect is because I show energy, dexterity, and commitment. I compose everything myself.”
He further likened music to medicine, stating that legends like Miles Davis and Stevie Wonder remained respected because they continuously practiced and perfected their craft.
Femi Kuti also noted that while many young musicians chase quick fame, they often fail to see the long-term consequences. “You might make a few hit songs when you’re young, but if you don’t grow artistically, the next generation will push you aside,” he said.
The Afrobeat maestro added that his consistency and dedication have kept him relevant across generations. “I’m still touring because my fans introduce me to their children and grandchildren. You’ll see both old and young faces at my concerts. That’s longevity,” he stated proudly.
