Kogi Poly In Turmoil: Deputy Registrar Flees As Certificate Forgery Ring Exposed.
A major certificate forgery scandal has rocked Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, following the suspension of five staff members, including a Deputy Registrar, Dominic Egwuda, over alleged involvement in a widespread document falsification network.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the institution’s Rector, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, made the disclosure during a press briefing on Thursday, revealing that Egwuda had absconded and failed to honour several investigative invitations from the management.
He explained that the scheme was uncovered after the school discovered multiple forged certificates and result slips bearing fake names and programmes, which were allegedly circulated within and outside the institution.
“Further investigation led to the suspension of five staff members, including a Deputy Registrar, Mr. Dominic Egwuda. He has refused to appear before our investigative panel and is currently on the run,” the Rector stated.
Professor Usman noted that the internal probe revealed that the syndicate comprised students, non-students, and certain dishonest employees who collaborated to falsify academic documents. He confirmed that four suspects had already been arrested in connection with the forgery.
The scandal came to light when one Dansuma Mercy Sunday visited the school to collect her statement of results, prompting a routine verification by the Admission and ICT Units. The verification exposed several fake documents and led to the arrest of four suspects — Abubakar Musa, Adejo Faith, Ademu Rilwanu, and a former student, Henry Tope, believed to be the mastermind of the syndicate.
Investigations revealed that the group forged both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) results, using the fake credentials to secure admissions or request original certificates.
The Rector disclosed that Egwuda and his accomplices allegedly facilitated the production of forged certificates for non-students. He cited the case of one Amina Mustapha, who appeared alongside Egwuda to collect ND and HND certificates in Computer Science, only for investigations to reveal that she had never attended the institution and her matriculation number was fictitious.
A staff member in the Exams and Records Unit was also discovered with 30 forged statements of results, counterfeit stamps, stamp pads, and admission letters found in his residence.
The prime suspect, Tope, confessed that he was contacted by one of the arrested individuals to help “process” a forged statement of result for N70,000.
Chief Security Officer of the Polytechnic, Emmanuel Attai, confirmed that the suspects were arrested after one of them was intercepted at the institution’s gate with a fake statement of result, leading to the capture of others involved.
Professor Usman reaffirmed the institution’s zero-tolerance policy on academic fraud, warning that everyone found culpable — staff, students, or external collaborators — would face severe legal and disciplinary consequences.
He also confirmed that the Polytechnic management is working closely with security agencies to apprehend the fleeing Deputy Registrar and other members of the forgery network. Meanwhile, an internal audit of the Exams and Records Unit has been launched to strengthen the integrity of the school’s record-keeping system.
