According to Nivo News, the distribution event, held at the O’Clean Event Center within the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat, was part of activities marking Day 2 of the council’s 100 Days in Office programme. The exercise followed the previous day’s focus on environmental sanitation and public health advocacy, reflecting the administration’s broad approach to community development.
The initiative, implemented in partnership with the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) under the Ilera Eko Scheme, aims to provide comprehensive medical access, preventive care, and financial protection for the elderly. During the event, beneficiaries received personalized health cards with policy numbers, officially enrolling them in the state-backed healthcare system.
LASHMA officials also conducted on-site medical checkups, offering health assessments and professional advice to participants.
Hon. Ladega described the initiative as a cornerstone of the Enhanced Healthcare pillar within his SEED Agenda—Security, Education, Enhanced Healthcare, and Development. He emphasized that the programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on inclusive governance and social welfare for vulnerable populations.
“Our elders have made invaluable contributions to the progress of our communities. Providing them with dependable healthcare is not just a responsibility—it is a moral duty,” Ladega stated. “Through this collaboration with LASHMA, we are ensuring that our senior citizens can access treatment, preventive care, and live with dignity and peace of mind.”
He further noted that the initiative complements Lagos State’s THEMES+ Agenda, particularly its Health and Environment pillar, by reinforcing local participation in state and national healthcare objectives.
Residents and invited guests commended the council for prioritizing the welfare of senior citizens. Beneficiaries also expressed gratitude, describing the Itoju Agba scheme as a timely intervention that eases the financial burden of healthcare for older adults and promotes social inclusion within the community.
