At his pull-out parade in Abuja on Friday, October 31, Musa reflected on his career with pride, highlighting his contributions to national security and the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other threats. “As I hang my uniform today, I do so knowing that I gave my all,” he declared, receiving resounding applause from officers and attendees.

Musa spoke fondly of the camaraderie and shared victories he experienced throughout his career, noting that while his official duties may end, “the soldier’s heart beats on forever.” He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing him as Chief of Defence Staff in June 2023, describing it as one of the highest honours of his military journey.

Though retiring from active service, Musa affirmed that his patriotism remains unwavering. “I remain a soldier at heart and a patriot ever loyal to the constitution and sovereignty of our great nation,” he stated. He also emphasised the importance of unity among security and intelligence agencies, warning against isolated efforts in combating national threats. “There is no single institution that can win this war alone. We must collaborate, and Nigerians should continue to pray for our troops,” he urged.

The retired general commended the frontline troops for their sacrifices, acknowledging that their dedication ensures peace and stability for the nation. He also congratulated his successor, General Olufemi Oluyede, expressing confidence that the Armed Forces will continue to thrive under his leadership.

Musa extended heartfelt appreciation to his family, describing them as “unsung heroes” who bore the strain of his long deployments, as well as to the media and security partners whose cooperation strengthened national operations during his tenure.

The retirement parade concluded with Musa saluting the troops one final time before departing in a ceremonial vehicle, symbolising the official end of his military career. For him, the event marked not just a farewell to uniformed service, but a reaffirmation of a lifelong commitment to Nigeria.
