Ex-Governor Lamido Fights Back, Seeks Court Order To Stop PDP Convention.
A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has taken legal action against the party, demanding that the Federal High Court in Abuja stop its planned national convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the convention is intended to elect new national officers to steer the affairs of the opposition party, but Lamido, who also served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, insists the process leading to the exercise is fundamentally flawed and discriminatory.
In a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CD/2229/2025, filed through his counsel, Jephthah Chikodi Njikonye (SAN), Lamido is asking the court to restrain both the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from organizing or supervising the convention.
The former governor alleged that he was unlawfully denied access to the nomination form required to contest for the position of national chairman, describing the act as a violation of his rights under the PDP constitution and internal electoral guidelines, which guarantee equal opportunities for all members.
Lamido further contended that the convention planning process excluded key stakeholders and disregarded constitutional provisions, thereby compromising fairness and transparency.
“The party failed to provide a level playing field for qualified aspirants, including myself, to vie for elective positions at the national convention,” Lamido stated in his affidavit.
He argued that denying him a nomination form amounted to a breach of natural justice and urged the court to halt the entire process until the issue is addressed.
The former governor is seeking a mandatory injunction compelling the PDP to issue him a nomination form for the national chairman position before any convention can take place.
Lamido also requested that INEC be barred from supervising or recognizing any convention held without his participation, maintaining that such an action would grant unlawful legitimacy to a flawed process.
