Senate Approves Plateau’s Bernard Doro For Federal Ministerial Role.
According to Nivo News, the Nigerian Senate on Thursday confirmed Bernard Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following a screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes. Speaking to lawmakers, Doro emphasized his commitment to promoting fairness and inclusivity in the nation’s humanitarian sector. “My commitment is to create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, impartial, and guided by independence,” he declared.
After brief questioning, senators expressed confidence in his qualifications and readiness to serve, concluding the session by requesting that he take a bow before departing.
The confirmation followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s letter to the Senate last week, which requested the expedited screening and approval of Doro, in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letter, after which it was referred to the Committee of the Whole, which quickly approved the nomination.
Doro’s appointment comes shortly after Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda’s emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman in July. Yilwatda had previously held the position of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction before his party elevation.
