Drama In Taraba: APC Youths Reject Governor Kefas’ Alleged Defection.
According to Nivo News, the Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youths Council has firmly rejected the alleged plan by Governor Agbu Kefas to defect to the ruling party, describing the move as unacceptable and inconsistent with the ideals of the APC.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released in Jalingo on Thursday, the council said youth leaders across the state had convened and unanimously passed a vote of no confidence on the governor, stressing that his leadership style and political ideology were incompatible with the progressive values of the APC.
State Coordinator of the council, Bilyamin Musa, declared that the youths were united in their opposition to Kefas’ rumored defection, insisting that the governor did not embody the principles of progressivism the APC stands for.
“We, the youths of APC in Taraba State, unanimously reject the defection of Governor Agbu Kefas into our great party. He is not a progressive leader, and APC is not a party for his caliber. Our position is clear — we do not welcome his coming,” Musa stated.
The group accused the governor of lacking both vision and capacity, alleging that his two years in office had not produced any significant development in Taraba State. The youths, therefore, urged the national leadership of the APC to reject any attempt to admit Kefas into the party, emphasizing that the APC should remain a platform for visionary, disciplined, and development-oriented leaders.
“We call on our national leaders to protect the sanctity of the APC and ensure it is not turned into a refuge for failed leaders,” the statement read.
Reaffirming their loyalty to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the council pledged to continue supporting the APC’s growth in Taraba State and to mobilize grassroots support ahead of future elections.
However, the Special Adviser to Governor Agbu Kefas on Political Matters and Special Duties, Josiah Kente, had earlier stated that the governor’s possible move to the APC would accelerate development in the state. According to him, such a decision would be a strategic alignment to position Taraba for greater participation in national development and access to federal opportunities.
Kente explained that the governor’s intention was driven by the collective interest of Taraba people, not personal ambition or political expediency. He highlighted Kefas’ strides in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, asserting that joining the ruling party would attract more federal projects and partnerships beneficial to the state.
