According to Nivo News, the Managing Director of NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, made this known during the maiden edition of the National Mentoring Day celebration held at the Authority’s headquarters in Lagos. He was represented at the event by the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Vivian Richard-Edet.
Dr. Dantsoho described the event as a landmark in NPA’s ongoing efforts to build future leaders, enhance knowledge transfer, and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the organisation.
“This occasion marks a significant milestone in our commitment to nurturing future leaders, promoting knowledge transfer, and institutionalising a culture of professional development,” he stated.
He stressed that while the Authority continues to make strategic investments in modern infrastructure and advanced port technologies, its most valuable asset remains its workforce.
“As an organisation at the heart of Nigeria’s maritime economy, we recognise that our true strength lies not only in infrastructure and technology but, more importantly, in our people,” he said.
Dantsoho further commended the contributions of young professionals serving with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the NPA, describing them as the next generation of innovators and administrators who will shape the future of the maritime industry and the national economy.
“The young professionals serving here under the NYSC are not just temporary participants; you represent the next wave of innovators and change agents who will drive the future of the maritime sector and our national economy,” he remarked.
National Mentoring Day, established in 2014 and inaugurated in London in 2016, is celebrated globally every October 27. The event encourages individuals and organisations to participate in mentoring to promote equal opportunities and empower people to reach their potential. The initiative also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10 (SDG 10), which focuses on reducing inequalities and promoting inclusion through mentorship.
