In a statement shared on his account, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing service chiefs for their years of dedicated service and leadership. He encouraged the newly appointed officers to uphold professionalism and ensure that the Armed Forces continue to serve Nigeria with honour.
The appointments include General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye will continue in his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
“I have approved changes in the hierarchy of our Armed Forces to further strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture,” President Tinubu said. “I thank General Christopher Musa and the outgoing service chiefs for their selfless service and dedicated leadership, and I charge the new service chiefs to deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity within our Armed Forces as they serve our nation with honour.”
The decision marks the removal of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, a position he has held since 2023. The shakeup, announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, also saw the appointment of new service chiefs to lead the Army, Air Force, and Navy.
