According to Nivo News, the Assembly also approved the six-month suspension of the institution’s Bursar for his alleged involvement in the financial irregularities uncovered during an extensive parliamentary investigation.
The decision followed the submission of a report by a special investigative committee set up to probe the financial and administrative operations of the polytechnic. The committee’s findings revealed several instances of unauthorized spending, misappropriation of public funds, and disregard for due process.
Speaker of the House, Dennis Guwor, stated that the investigation exposed what lawmakers described as a “flagrant abuse of office” and serious breaches of the rules guiding the management of public tertiary institutions. He noted that the suspension was necessary to ensure accountability and restore transparency within the institution.
The Assembly further endorsed the Governing Council’s earlier resolution imposing the same suspension, emphasizing that the action was aimed at reinforcing discipline and rebuilding public trust in the institution’s leadership.
Additionally, the House directed the Delta State Ministry of Higher Education to oversee the polytechnic’s administration during the suspension period to guarantee stability, transparency, and adherence to proper financial procedures.
Lawmakers reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to zero tolerance for corruption and financial recklessness in public offices, stressing that the measure was crucial to maintaining integrity within the state’s educational system.
