According to Nivo News, the royal council, under the aegis of Afe Nkuku Annang, issued a seven-day ultimatum to the couple to appear before it for questioning over the alleged malicious remarks. The decision was contained in a communiqué released on Monday from the Palace of the Paramount Ruler of Essien Udim Local Government Area.

The traditional rulers expressed deep concern over comments attributed to Mrs. Patience Ibanga Akpabio in viral videos and social media posts, describing them as defamatory and damaging to the image of both the Senate President and the Governor. In the videos, Mrs. Akpabio allegedly accused Senator Akpabio of complicity in certain unresolved killings in the state and reportedly used abusive language against him and his wife.

Condemning the remarks, the traditional rulers said Mrs. Akpabio, being married into the Akpabio family of Essien Udim, was expected to uphold the dignity and honour of the Annang people. “These spurious attacks are not only affronts to Senator Akpabio’s person but also to the collective reputation of Essien Udim and, by extension, Akwa Ibom State,” Chief Nse Ntuen stated on behalf of the elders.

He emphasized the need for restraint and truthfulness in public commentary, warning against a culture of reckless misinformation. The Forum declared that the allegations against both Akpabio and Governor Eno were unfounded and exonerated them of any wrongdoing.

Endorsed by HRM Obong Cosmas Okon Akpan, President of Afe Nkuku Annang and Paramount Ruler of Essien Udim; HRM Akuku (Prof.) Amanam Akpanudo Udo, Vice President and Paramount Ruler of Etim Ekpo; and HRM Akuku Engr. (Dr.) J.J. Obosi IV, Secretary-General and Paramount Ruler of Oruk Anam, the communiqué warned that failure to comply with the summons within seven days could attract traditional sanctions as prescribed by Annang customs.

The Forum reaffirmed its loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno, commending their leadership and commitment to the peace and development of both the nation and Akwa Ibom State.

ADC chieftain and publisher, Dele Momodu, has dismissed calls for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, describing the push as unfair and politically motivated.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Momodu was reacting to comments by activist Zekeri Idris Jnr, a supporter of Peter Obi, who urged Atiku to step aside over concerns about his age, which would be about 80 by 2027.

In a post on his X handle on Saturday, Momodu said attention should be focused on holding the government accountable rather than targeting Atiku’s political ambition.

The exchange followed a viral video where Idris insisted that Atiku should support younger aspirants instead of contesting, arguing that voters would not back an elderly candidate.

Idris also suggested that Atiku should act as a statesman and support younger politicians such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and others.

Responding, Momodu cited several world leaders who held office at advanced ages, arguing that experience should not be dismissed in leadership discussions.

He questioned what should disqualify Atiku from contesting, insisting that age alone is not a valid reason.

Atiku, who lost the 2023 presidential election to President Bola Tinubu, is reportedly considering another run in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
