“We Were Under Attack”: Dangote Refinery Uncovers 22 Sabotage Attempts Amid Mass Layoffs.
According to Nivo News, the Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, Devakumar Edwin, has shed light on the recent restructuring within the company, clarifying that it was driven by multiple acts of sabotage rather than labour disputes.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Dangote Industries had recently faced intense public scrutiny following reports alleging that over 800 Nigerian employees were dismissed, prompting concerns from labour groups. Addressing journalists on Friday at the Dangote Refinery in Lagos, Edwin explained that the decision to reorganize the workforce came after 22 recorded attempts to sabotage the company’s operations.
He stressed that the safety and long-term sustainability of Africa’s largest refinery project were the company’s top priorities, adding that every decision made was in the interest of protecting the facility’s integrity.
Edwin refuted claims linking the layoffs to pressure from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), describing such reports as “completely false.”
“They said we have an issue with PENGASSAN; it is totally false news,” he stated. “When we met with the minister and security agencies, I explained clearly that we have no issue with PENGASSAN. What we have been facing are incidents of sabotage — 22 of them. We have documented every attempt, the dates, and the specific units involved.”
He added that the refinery’s state-of-the-art safety systems helped avert disaster during attempted arson incidents. “Fortunately for us, by the grace of God, this is an ultra-modern refinery. So when someone tries to start a fire somewhere, the fire protection system immediately controls it,” Edwin said.
