NAAPE Dares Orji Kalu To Prove Shocking Drug Allegations Against Nigerian Pilots.

Published

The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) has called on Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to provide concrete evidence backing his recent claims that some Nigerian pilots and flight crew smoke Indian hemp and operate aircraft under the influence of drugs.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, the association described the Senator’s comments as baseless, misleading, and damaging to the reputation of aviation professionals in the country. In a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Engr. Blessing Ahmadu, NAAPE urged the former governor to immediately present verifiable proof of his allegations to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), or issue a public apology to the aviation community.

The association condemned the remarks made by Kalu during a recent plenary session at the National Assembly, stressing that they amount to a malicious attack on the integrity and professionalism of Nigerian aviators.

“NAAPE categorically refutes the broad and unsubstantiated claim that Nigerian pilots fly under the influence of narcotics,” the statement read. “Such baseless statements not only distort public perception but also undermine the rigorous safety standards that guide aviation operations in Nigeria.”

The association emphasized that every pilot in the country operates under strict regulatory, medical, and ethical standards as set by the NCAA in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) requirements. These standards prohibit the use of any psychoactive substances and require regular and random drug and alcohol testing as part of ongoing certification and safety compliance.

Reaffirming its trust in the NCAA and its oversight functions, NAAPE noted that Nigeria’s aviation sector remains one of the safest in Africa due to adherence to international best practices and continuous professional development. It warned that unfounded allegations could erode public confidence in the industry and demoralize dedicated professionals.

President of NAAPE, Capt. Bunmi Gindeh, also reacted, insisting that the burden of proof rests solely on the person making such claims. “It is unacceptable to make unsubstantiated allegations against a community of highly trained professionals,” he said. “Anyone making such assertions must back them with evidence or retract them with a public apology. It is unfair to generalize and suggest that Nigerian pilots operate aircraft while intoxicated when our members undergo some of the most rigorous medical and professional screening anywhere in the world.”

Gindeh further expressed disappointment that a former airline operator like Kalu would make such sweeping claims, adding that aviation professionals have consistently maintained an impeccable safety record built on discipline and global standards.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He wrote, “Chiemeka Chibuzor’s wedding is hereby suspended. More than a thousand applications. No more wedding pending further directive from me.”

The cleric had earlier this week publicly invited proposals for her marriage, setting conditions that included the suitor being young and in good physical and mental health, alongside promised financial support and housing benefits.

He also said the couple would enjoy lifelong support, including shared property ownership and periodic welfare checks from church members.

The development follows a similar arrangement recently conducted by the church involving a non-verbal autistic man who was married in a ceremony organised by the ministry.
