Defection Looms? Taraba Youths Push Kefas Toward APC Ahead Of 2027.
Pressure is intensifying on Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as a coalition of youths across the state urges him to align with the Federal Government for the sake of development.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the youths argue that Taraba has been politically isolated for years and could gain access to more federal projects, appointments, and infrastructural support if the governor defects to the party at the centre.
Speaking in Jalingo, the coalition’s spokesperson stated that the state’s growth prospects would improve significantly under an APC-led synergy. “If Governor Kefas joins the APC, Taraba will gain direct access to federal resources and opportunities that our people, especially the youth, desperately need,” the group noted, stressing that their demand is driven by development, not partisanship.
The group described Kefas as a courageous and visionary leader whose political influence would grow if he chose to align with the ruling party. “We urge him to make history by aligning with the centre so Taraba can take its rightful place in Nigeria’s progress,” they added.
The development comes amid mounting speculation that Governor Kefas, elected under the PDP in 2023, may be considering a switch to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, the rumours have drawn mixed reactions within the state, with some political observers viewing the possible defection as strategic, while others see it as unnecessary political distraction.
Reacting to the reports, an APC chieftain and former governorship aspirant, Chief David Sabo Kente (DSK), dismissed claims that he was paving the way for Kefas’ defection. Kente, who hails from the same Wukari Local Government Area as the governor, clarified that he was unaware of any such plan. “He has not informed me of any intention to join the APC. For now, it remains mere speculation,” Kente said.
He further disclosed that though he had earlier promised not to contest against Kefas in 2027, increasing pressure from supporters across the state had forced him to reconsider his political stance. “I have been overwhelmed with calls urging me to contest. Consultations are ongoing, and I may join the race,” he said.
Despite the political drama, Governor Kefas has maintained silence, focusing instead on governance. Sources within the Government House told Nivo News that the governor remains committed to his reform agenda in education, security, and infrastructure, insisting that “performance is the best politics.”
Since assuming office, Kefas has launched major initiatives, including a free basic education policy and youth empowerment programmes, aimed at repositioning the state for inclusive growth. However, analysts believe that his next political move — whether to remain in the PDP or defect to the APC — will have significant implications for Taraba’s political future.
The APC has been consolidating its influence across the North-East with several high-profile defections, and party insiders hint that they would welcome Kefas if he chooses to join. “Our doors are open, but the decision must come from him,” a senior APC official in Jalingo told Nivo News.
As the 2027 elections approach, Taraba stands at a political crossroads. While youth groups push for alignment with the centre to unlock development, others warn that defection could destabilise the PDP and divide the state’s political base. For now, Governor Kefas’s silence continues to fuel speculation, as many believe his next move could reshape Taraba’s political landscape for years to come.
One political elder captured the mood succinctly: “Whatever Kefas decides will determine who controls the future of Taraba politics. All eyes are on him.”

Clearing The Smoke: Ndume Slams The Endless Certificate Drama And Demands Immediate Shift In National Priorities!.
Former Senate Leader and prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Senator Ali Ndume, has publicly characterized the ongoing public discourse and controversy surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s academic credentials as an unnecessary distraction from governance. This debate was reignited following the publication of academic qualifications and candidate forms for presidential contenders and their running mates by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Senator Ndume addressed these developments through an official press statement, arguing that opposition parties and political figures are misdirecting their energy by fixating on credentials rather than substantive executive performance.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to the former Senate Leader, President Tinubu has fully satisfied the legal prerequisites mandated for occupying the nation’s highest office, thereby rendering challenges regarding specific secondary school documentation legally moot. He emphasized that the matter had already undergone rigorous legal scrutiny and judicial settlement through litigation stemming from the preceding electoral cycle. Referencing the explicit provisions of Section 131(d) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ndume highlighted that the foundational law establishes a baseline educational threshold rather than mandating a specific educational document as the exclusive proof of qualification. The constitutional provision explicitly states that an individual qualifies for election to the office of the President if they have been educated up to at least school certificate level or its equivalent.
Expanding upon his critique, Ndume urged political stakeholders and the broader public to pivot away from administrative contentions and instead evaluate the sitting administration based on its governance, public policies, and socio-economic outcomes. He noted that continuous concentration on procedural credential narratives detracts from addressing pressing national priorities. For individuals seeking further details regarding candidate eligibility frameworks, electoral regulations, and official announcements, consulting the Independent National Electoral Commission or reviewing updates via established media platforms such as Channels Television and Premium Times provides comprehensive context on the legal and political dimensions of the discourse.
