The committee, led by its Chairperson, Hon. Boma Goodhead, made this known during an oversight visit to Zobis Cable Nigeria Ltd. in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Thursday. During the visit, the lawmakers expressed satisfaction with the company’s operations, describing it as a reflection of Nigeria’s capability to produce high-quality industrial materials that meet the demands of critical sectors such as oil and gas, energy, and construction.
Hon. Goodhead commended the company for strictly complying with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, embracing modern production technologies, and contributing to import substitution and value addition in the economy.
“The scale of investment here proves that Nigerian manufacturers have the capacity to compete on a global level if provided with the right policy environment, visibility, and access to the oil and gas value chain,” she stated.
She emphasized that the progress of firms like Zobis Cable aligns perfectly with President Tinubu’s directive to ministries, departments, and agencies—particularly in the oil, gas, power, and infrastructure sectors—to prioritize locally made goods as a strategy for economic growth, job creation, and technological advancement.
“This visit forms part of our legislative responsibility to promote and monitor local content participation across Nigeria,” the lawmaker added. “By recognizing companies like Zobis Cable, we are sending a strong message that the era of overdependence on imported cables must end, paving the way for Nigerian-made excellence.”
She further noted that the success story of Zobis Cable embodies the essence of Nigerian Content — Made in Nigeria, Trusted by the World. “We remain resolute in our mission to build an industrial ecosystem that reflects Nigeria’s economic might and technological independence,” she concluded.
