The potential switch follows shortly after Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah officially joined the ruling party. Speculation surrounding Kefas’ political intentions has intensified in recent weeks, particularly after a youth-led rally in Jalingo on Tuesday urged him to align with the APC.
Sources indicate that Governor Kefas has established a stakeholder engagement committee, co-chaired by former Senator Dahiru Bako, to assess public sentiment before making any final decisions. Bako confirmed the consultations, stating, “The governor will not make any political move without hearing from the people and carrying them along. That is why we are meeting with them.”
The APC in Taraba has expressed readiness to receive Kefas, though insiders suggest that some party loyalists are concerned that his defection could disrupt ticket allocations ahead of the 2027 elections. Reports further suggest fears that PDP lawmakers and appointees might accompany Kefas in his move, potentially limiting opportunities for long-standing APC members.
