According to Nivo News, the land transfer to the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy marks a major milestone in the Federal Government’s effort to develop a modern logistics and cargo hub that will enhance intermodal transport connectivity and ease the pressure on Lagos ports.
Speaking at the signing of the Transfer of Rights, Control, and Possession, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Olufemi Oloruntola, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination to deliver the project within the shortest possible time. He noted that the dry port forms part of ongoing plans to improve port efficiency, strengthen regional trade logistics, and ensure seamless cargo movement across the country.
Representing Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, stated that the state’s decision to provide the land demonstrates its readiness to partner with the Federal Government to advance Nigeria’s trade infrastructure and diversify transportation networks.
“The state has provided land to support the construction of the inland port terminal within the Ijebu-Ode economic cluster area. This initiative will greatly enhance intermodal transportation and help decongest the Western ports,” Dairo said.
The event drew participation from key maritime stakeholders, including the Director of Maritime Services, Dr. Mercy Ilori; the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Pius Akutah; and officials of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), all of whom expressed confidence that the project would transform regional trade and logistics.
The Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port is part of the Federal Government’s broader initiative to decentralize cargo handling and boost economic development in inland regions. Similar projects are currently ongoing in Ibadan, Kano, Funtua, and Jos, in line with the administration’s vision to improve logistics efficiency and reduce trade costs nationwide.
Upon completion, the facility is expected to drive investment, enhance cargo distribution, and position Ogun State as a leading logistics and commercial hub within the South-West corridor.
ough as the Ogun State Government officially handed over 130 hectares of land for the construction of the Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port.
