Political Earthquake In Enugu: Governor Mbah, Lawmakers Dump PDP For APC.
According to Nivo News, the political atmosphere in Enugu State is set for a dramatic shift as Governor Peter Mbah and virtually all elected and appointed officials of the state prepare to defect en masse from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The development, which mirrors earlier defections in Delta and Cross River States, was confirmed by the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Enugu State APC Caretaker Committee, Dr. Ben Nwoye, during a media briefing at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
Nwoye announced that Governor Mbah, his appointees, 260 councillors, 24 state lawmakers, National Assembly members, and the entire state executive council would be officially received into the ruling party on October 14. He described the defection as the dawn of a “new political era” for Enugu and the entire Southeast region, calling it a “merger between transformation and renewed hope.”
“For the past decade, Enugu State has been in opposition. That will end on Tuesday when Governor Peter Mbah joins the APC. He is not coming alone,” Nwoye declared confidently, adding that the move would mark the state’s full alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Commending Mbah’s leadership, Nwoye praised his administration’s infrastructural and economic reforms, noting that Enugu now ranks among Nigeria’s top states in internally generated revenue. He said the synergy between Mbah’s Transformation Agenda and Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Vision would fast-track development across the Southeast.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who inaugurated the new caretaker committee, urged the Enugu leadership to consolidate the defection into a “lasting political conquest,” emphasizing that “APC is home for all, and every member—new or old—has equal rights.”
Similarly, APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Eneukwu, described the event as the Southeast’s return to national relevance, declaring, “With Enugu in APC, the region has found its voice again.”
Meanwhile, speculation is rife in Benue State that former Governor Gabriel Suswam, former NAFDAC Director-General Dr. Paul Orhii, House of Representatives member Hon. Ojema Ojotu, and former Senator David Iornem are preparing to defect from the PDP to the APC.
Though Suswam’s aide, Bede Bartholomew, dismissed the rumours as “baseless and untrue,” banners and posters announcing the defection have already appeared on major streets in Makurdi, sparking jubilation among the former governor’s supporters.
At Suswam’s country home in Anyiin and nearby settlements, celebrations erupted as supporters chanted his traditional praise name, “Dom Agya.” Sources disclosed that the former governor has been in closed-door meetings with his loyalists to deliberate on the timing of the official defection ceremony.
Reacting to the wave of defections, the PDP accused the APC of using intimidation and blackmail to lure its members. However, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, dismissed the allegations as “a tired excuse from a collapsing opposition.”
Morka asserted that the PDP was only reaping the consequences of its “decades of corruption, impunity, and failed leadership,” adding that those defecting were simply “exercising their free democratic will” to secure their political future ahead of 2027.

INEC Dismisses Underage Voter Registration In Osun.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has refuted claims circulating on social media that underage voters were registered in Ede North Local Government Area.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a press release obtained in Osogbo on Monday and signed by its Public Affairs Officer, Musa Olurode, the commission described the allegation as false and misleading.
INEC noted a Facebook post claiming that underage individuals, dressed in school uniforms, were registered at its Ede North office on Friday, February 6, 2026.
Clarifying the matter, the commission confirmed that while some students from YTD Grammar School, Ojoro Ede, were brought to the office intending to register, they were turned away.
“The Electoral Officer and officials on duty, acting in strict compliance with the law, refused entry to the students. Consequently, no underage person was registered,” the statement emphasized.
INEC reassured residents that it would not permit any actions that could compromise the credibility or integrity of the voter registration process. The commission affirmed that its operations follow the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2022.
Members of the public were urged to disregard the viral social media post and rely solely on official INEC Osun State communication channels for accurate information.
