Four Soldiers Slain As Troops Crush Boko Haram Assault In Borno.
According to Nivo News, four Nigerian soldiers have lost their lives following a fierce confrontation between troops and Boko Haram insurgents at the Military Super Camp in Ngamdu, along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway in Borno State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Nigerian Army, in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI, confirmed that the attack was successfully repelled despite intense gunfire and the use of heavy weapons by the terrorists.
The army explained that the insurgents launched a coordinated assault employing Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), armed drones, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) targeting troops and military assets. Troops reportedly responded with superior firepower, inflicting heavy losses on the attackers.
While the army confirmed four soldiers were killed and five others injured, it disclosed that several military vehicles, including Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and gun trucks, sustained varying degrees of damage.
The insurgents were said to have planted multiple IEDs along the Ngamdu–Damaturu Main Supply Route to prevent reinforcements, temporarily halting movement on the busy highway. Military engineers swiftly cleared three explosive-laden spots before reopening the route for civilian and military use.
The statement further revealed that credible intelligence confirmed the terrorists suffered significant casualties, with reports of mass burials of about 15 bodies around Bula Wura near Wasaram. In response, troops from the 29 Task Force Brigade have launched aggressive patrols and operations to consolidate control and deny insurgents any freedom of action in the area.
The army commended the gallantry and resilience of its personnel, assuring the public that efforts were ongoing to maintain peace and stability across the region.
Meanwhile, the aftermath of the attack caused severe disruption to movement on the Maiduguri–Damaturu–Kano highway as soldiers blocked the road for over seven hours. Hundreds of travellers were left stranded on both ends, with many forced to return or delay their journeys.
A student of the University of Maiduguri, Mustapha Yaya, lamented missing his lectures due to the gridlock, while a commercial driver, Abdullahi from Kano, said passengers aborted their trip to Abuja amid safety concerns.
The incident marked the first insurgent attack on the busy highway in over three years, raising renewed fears among residents and travellers. Many have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen security along the corridor to prevent future occurrences.
