Yoruba Leaders Storm Lagos, Demand Tinubu’s Urgent Action On Rising Insecurity.
According to Nivo News, leaders of the Yoruba Self-Determination Movement (YSDM) have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate and decisive steps to curb the worsening insecurity across the Southwest region. The group raised alarm over increasing cases of kidnapping, banditry, and violent attacks that have continued to plague rural communities.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The appeal was made during a peaceful demonstration held in Lagos on Friday, where members of the movement gathered to express deep concern over what they described as a “growing threat to safety and stability” in Yorubaland.
Speaking during the rally, Arc. Opeoluwa George Akinola, a key figure in the movement, described the security situation as “unbearable,” lamenting the persistent killings, abductions, and harassment faced by farmers and residents in rural areas.
“Our people are being slaughtered by armed groups. Farmers can no longer access their lands, and our women are being raped almost daily,” Akinola said. “This crisis has dragged on for too long. At least 24 communities have suffered brutal attacks, and it must stop now.”
Akinola also appealed to the Federal Government to reinstate Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho, describing him as a “son of the soil” who could help mobilize and coordinate grassroots security efforts if officially recognized.
Mrs. Funmilayo Oguniyi, a prominent women leader from the Ifelodun Apapo Omo Yoruba group, acknowledged the ongoing work of security agencies but maintained that their response remains inadequate.
“Many of these kidnappings occur near border areas. Innocent travelers are taken away, and most never return. Families invest so much in their children only for them to be kidnapped or killed without cause,” she lamented.
Prophet Ologun Loluwa, a youth leader and spiritual voice within the movement, described the insecurity as a “national emergency,” urging leaders across all levels to rise above political divides and confront the menace head-on.
“Insecurity has become a monster. From North to South, East to West, Nigerians are living in fear. This is not the legacy our forefathers left us,” he stated. “We reject a Nigeria where Yoruba sons and daughters live like strangers in their ancestral land.”
The group vowed to continue peaceful demonstrations and advocacy campaigns until the government implements concrete measures to safeguard the Southwest and protect citizens from further attacks.
