Speaking in Abuja during the agency’s commemoration of the 2025 Customer Service Week themed “Mission: Possible,” Umar emphasized that the goal of effective disaster management can only be achieved through collective effort and a deep commitment to service excellence.
According to Nivo News, the NEMA boss urged staff nationwide to uphold the principles of empathy, professionalism, and accountability in their daily operations. She charged them to build public trust, restore human dignity, and prioritize saving lives in all their interventions.
Umar noted that the 2025 Customer Service Week theme serves as a reminder that no challenge is insurmountable when service is driven by purpose, compassion, and determination. She added that every NEMA official must embody integrity and commitment to ensure that relief and rescue efforts reach the right people at the right time.
“As the nation’s leading disaster management institution, our responsibility extends beyond emergency response — it demands excellence, transparency, and compassion,” she said. “Whether we are providing humanitarian relief, managing internally displaced persons’ camps, or building community resilience, our success is reflected in the trust and satisfaction of the citizens we serve.”
Umar reiterated that disasters strike without warning, and that timely communication, empathy, and swift action often determine the difference between despair and hope. She stressed that customer care is not a department in NEMA but the very heart of its mandate.
The Director General also called on partners and stakeholders to collaborate with NEMA in fostering a culture of service where every Nigerian, regardless of circumstance, feels heard, valued, and supported.
