Federal Court Blocks Navy From Arresting Retired Vice Admiral.
Lagos – The Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an order restraining the Nigerian Navy and other security agencies from arresting retired Vice Admiral Dada Olaniyi Labinjo, following the issuance of a ‘deserter signal’ against him.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa, who granted the order, stated that deserter signal number 643NG, dated September 3, 2025, which directed the apprehension of the retired officer, “shall remain unexecuted” pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
The order came after Labinjo’s lawyer, Andrew Igboekwe (SAN), filed an ex parte motion on behalf of the retired naval officer. The respondents in the case include the Nigerian Navy, the Chief of Naval Staff, the Navy Board, and the Attorney General of the Federation.
Justice Lewis-Allagoa further granted an interim injunction preventing the respondents and other law enforcement agencies from arresting Labinjo, either under the deserter signal or any other pretext, unless authorized by a valid court order. The court emphasized that the signal “shall remain unexecuted” until the hearing and determination of the motion on notice seeking enforcement of the applicant’s fundamental rights.
The matter has been adjourned to October 20 for further proceedings.
