Army Urges Media To Join Fight Against Terrorist Propaganda.
The Nigerian Army has called on the media to partner with the military in countering terrorist propaganda and disinformation campaigns aimed at undermining public confidence and demoralizing troops.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the appeal was made by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Apollonia Anele, during the closing ceremony of the combined third and fourth quarter training seminar of the Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR), held in Abuja on Thursday.
Lt.-Col. Anele emphasized that the ongoing fight against insurgency and terrorism in Nigeria cannot be achieved through military might alone but requires mastery of information and effective communication strategies. She noted that propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation have become potent weapons used by terrorists and other non-state actors to distort facts and sow distrust among citizens.
She stated that the seminar, themed “Enhancing Responsible Media Reportage of Nigerian Army Operations in a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment for Enhanced National Security,” brought together officers of the Nigerian Army, sister security services, intelligence agencies, and defence correspondents to deliberate on improving collaboration between the media and the military.
“The discussions and presentations over the past days have reinforced a critical truth—that in today’s complex security environment, wars are not fought by firepower alone but also through control of information,” Anele said. “Propaganda and misinformation are now dangerous tools in the hands of terrorists, secessionists, and economic saboteurs. Our collective responsibility is to ensure these lies do not erode public confidence or undermine the sacrifices of our gallant troops.”
She reiterated that the Nigerian Army remains fully committed to defending the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity but stressed that victory would only be sustainable with the active cooperation of the media.
“The media are not mere observers in this battle; they are strategic partners whose reports and narratives can either strengthen or weaken national resolve,” she added.
Lt.-Col. Anele further noted that the seminar had deepened the bond between the military and the media, fostering mutual trust and promoting balanced, responsible, and conflict-sensitive reporting. She urged participants to put the lessons learnt into practice in their various fields and platforms, saying, “Only then can we deny the enemies of our country the oxygen of propaganda.”
