Tinubu Nominates Olorunnimbe As NCC Chairman, Moves To Strengthen Key Agencies.

According to Nivo News, the President’s request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Wednesday’s plenary session. The letter also listed several other nominees for key positions on the NCC Board, including Abraham Oshidami as Executive Commissioner (Technical Services), Rimini Makama as Executive Commissioner (Stakeholder Management), Maryam Bayi, Col. Abdulwahab Lawal (retd.), Lekan Mustafa, Chris Okorie, and Oforitsenere Emiko.
President Tinubu explained that the nominations were part of his administration’s strategic efforts to strengthen the communication and regulatory framework of the country to ensure improved efficiency and service delivery.
In another correspondence to the Senate, the President sought legislative approval for the appointment of Dr. Musa Babayo as Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Dr. Aminu Yusuf as Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), and Professor Adeniran Raymond Tella as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (Oyo State) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Also included for Senate consideration was the nomination of Keji Onwu as Independent Director on the Board of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), alongside other candidates for the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC).
Following the reading of the letters, the Senate President referred the nominations to the relevant committees for screening, with a directive that the INEC committee should complete its assignment within one week.
Under Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), all presidential nominations for key federal positions require Senate confirmation before the appointees can formally assume their roles.
