The appointments mark a significant milestone in Nigeria’s growing influence in global football governance. Gusau joins the FIFA Men’s Club Competitions Committee, Mustapha takes a role in the Anti-Racism and Anti-Discrimination Committee, while Falode assumes a position on the Media and Communications Committee—each role reinforcing Nigeria’s presence in strategic areas of the world’s football leadership.
Pinnick, who serves as Deputy Chair of the committee responsible for all FIFA Men’s National Team Competitions, lauded the trio’s recognition, describing it as “a reflection of Nigeria’s strategic relevance and intellectual capital within the international football community.”
Expressing admiration for Aisha Falode’s trailblazing impact in sports journalism and football administration, Pinnick commended her as an inspiration for women across Africa. “I am deeply honoured by my continued service within FIFA and humbled to work alongside Robert Harrison, Chair of the Men’s National Teams Competitions Committee,” he said. “I wholeheartedly congratulate President Gusau, Abdulhakeem Mustapha, SAN, and Aisha Falode on their well-deserved appointments. Together, we represent a new era of professionalism, integrity, and innovation for Nigerian football on the world stage.”
Pinnick further praised the individual contributions of each appointee, describing Gusau’s leadership as steady and unifying, Mustapha’s intellect as a beacon of justice within the sport, and Falode’s evolution from journalist to global football executive as a source of inspiration for countless women in sports.
Falode’s appointment, in particular, stands out as a historic achievement. A former Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), she was the first female member of CAF’s Media and Communications Committee. Her new FIFA role further cements her reputation as one of Africa’s foremost advocates for professionalism, visibility, and gender equity in football administration.
