Tinubu’s Health Agenda Gains Boost As FG Supports Research Into Cancer-Fighting Plant Compound
The Federal Government has directed leading health research institutions across the country to provide financial and institutional backing for ongoing studies into a potential breakthrough treatment for brain cancer.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the government mandated the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), and the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT) to spearhead the initiative.
The directive followed reports of a promising active compound believed to show strong efficacy against several cancer types, particularly glioblastoma multiforme, one of the most aggressive and deadly forms of brain cancer.
Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Adekunle Salako, gave the order during a virtual meeting with the heads of the designated institutions and the Centre for Advanced Medical Research and Training (CAMRET) at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Dr. Salako described the discovery as a potential game-changer in Nigeria’s healthcare landscape, noting that it aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for a reformed and self-reliant health sector. He emphasized that the development underscored the need to strengthen Nigeria’s phytomedicine industry as part of broader efforts to unlock the nation’s healthcare value chain.
He revealed that a ministerial committee had already been set up to bring together researchers, investors, and industry players to drive innovation in the pharmaceutical and phytomedicine sectors. The minister further instructed the CAMRET team to submit a detailed proposal to the ministry outlining the financial and technical support required to accelerate the study.
Dr. Salako reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the research team, commending the scientists’ dedication and urging them to sustain their efforts until the findings translate into an accessible treatment for Nigerians.
Presenting the research progress, CAMRET team leader, Dr. Amina Jega, disclosed that the active compound was extracted from a plant native to northern Nigeria. She explained that laboratory tests showed the substance effectively destroyed brain cancer cell lines within 48 hours at a specific dosage.
Jega added that the compound is currently being tested against other cancers—including breast, liver, colon, cervical, leukemia, and lung cancers—with early results proving equally encouraging. She stressed that glioblastoma remains one of the deadliest brain cancers, with patients averaging only 15 months of survival after diagnosis, highlighting the urgency of sustained research.
NICRAT’s Director-General, Prof. Usman Aliyu, welcomed the minister’s directive and affirmed the institute’s readiness to collaborate fully. He confirmed that NICRAT had already engaged with the research team and pledged institutional support to ensure the discovery reaches its full potential.

I Have Not Borrowed Since I Became Governor – Kaduna Gov Sani Boasts.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani announced during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today that his administration has not acquired any new loans since he took office, despite allocating approximately ₦6.7 billion monthly to service heavy debts left behind by past administrations. Speaking on state financial management amidst rising revenues, Sani emphasized that this massive debt burden has not hindered ongoing developmental projects across the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Attributing the administration’s financial stability to fiscal prudence and strategic project prioritization, Sani stated:
“Since I became governor, I’ve not borrowed with one kobo. It’s about being prudent. It’s about selecting or being very careful in where you invest the money.”
In addition to fiscal matters, the governor highlighted advancements across sectors including agriculture, education, infrastructure, security, and skills development. Addressing the state’s out-of-school children challenge, Sani noted that a comprehensive government household-mapping initiative uncovered roughly 550,000 children previously out of school, allowing the state to leverage reliable data rather than estimates and successfully return over 300,000 of them back to the classroom as interventions continue.

THE 2027 EARTHQUAKE: Atiku Drops Massive Fresh Promise That Will Change Nigeria Forever!.
African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has pledged to fully reopen Nigeria’s land borders if elected in 2027, arguing that current restrictions have crippled legitimate transborder commerce and left many young entrepreneurs bankrupt. In a video shared by ADC chieftain Dele Momodu, Atiku emphasized that northern states rely heavily on cross-border trade with neighboring countries like Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Benin, and that shutting these borders has destroyed millions in business capital while fueling youth unemployment and insecurity.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Beyond border reopening, Atiku outlined plans to upgrade southern port infrastructure in locations such as Calabar, Uyo, and Port Harcourt to ease the logistics bottleneck. Drawing on his experience running a factory in Yola, he pointed out that transporting containers from Lagos to the North-East takes up to two months due to poor roads and long distances, whereas shipments from southern ports could reach Yola in just 24 hours if proper infrastructure were established.
While previous administrations—beginning with nationwide closures under President Muhammadu Buhari in August 2019 to curb smuggling, and followed by selective reopenings including the Tsamiya and Kamba borders under President Tinubu in February 2026—have partially eased restrictions, many land borders continue to face tight controls.

ROYAL TRAGEDY: Norway Mourns As King Harald Passes Away At 89 In Stunning National Blow!.
Norway’s King Harald V has passed away at the age of 89 following a prolonged battle with health issues, making way for his son, Crown Prince Haakon, to ascend the throne. The Norwegian Royal Palace confirmed that the king died peacefully at 6:35 a.m. on Friday, August 28, at Oslo University Hospital. Flags at the Royal Palace were immediately lowered to half-mast as citizens gathered to leave flowers and mourn.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Harald had been hospitalized since August 17 due to haemolytic anaemia, a condition causing rapid red blood cell destruction. After his health worsened sharply on Thursday, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon, and close family members rushed to his bedside, with Haakon staying through the night. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store also canceled a scheduled trip to Germany as the crisis unfolded.
Public tributes highlighted the late monarch’s unifying presence. Citizens remembered him as a warm, steady figure who championed social inclusion and stood as a pillar against growing political polarization. Having assumed the throne in 1991 after his father King Olav V’s passing, Harald was Europe’s oldest reigning monarch and consistently refused to abdicate, honoring the oath he took before parliament for life.
The royal family has navigated several recent challenges alongside the king’s failing health, including Queen Sonja’s brief hospitalization in May and Crown Prince Haakon’s wife, Mette-Marit, undergoing a lung transplant in July. Mette-Marit also faced scrutiny over past correspondence with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, while her son, Marius Borg Hoiby, was sentenced in June to four years in prison for multiple offenses.
