Thousands March In Kaduna, Demand Justice For Dangote Refinery And Local Oil Producers.

Thousands of Nigerians under the banner of Partners for National Economic Progress (PANEP) on Monday took to the streets of Kaduna in a massive demonstration, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take firm action against individuals and groups allegedly sabotaging efforts to achieve local refining of petroleum products.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, the demonstrators converged at Murtala Mohammed Square before marching through major roads in the city, accusing a powerful oil cartel of frustrating the country’s economic growth by undermining local refinery initiatives, particularly the operations of the Dangote Refinery.

Chanting solidarity songs and wielding placards with inscriptions such as “Support Local Refining,” “Crush Economic Saboteurs,” and “Protect Dangote Refinery,” the protesters declared their movement as a patriotic struggle to liberate Nigeria from years of economic manipulation.

Leaders of the group, Comrade Igwe Ude-Umanta and Comrade Dahiru Umar Maishanu, called on President Tinubu to confront the so-called cartel benefiting from fuel importation and artificial scarcity, stressing that the country’s economic survival depended on bold action.

“This is not about Dangote alone; it’s about Nigeria’s future,” Ude-Umanta said. “Mr. President must rise and crush those standing in the way of our self-reliance in refining.”

He explained that the protest, themed “National Unity Against Sabotage: Reclaiming Our Petroleum Sector for the People,” was part of a broader campaign to defend local refining from what he described as “economic terrorists” determined to keep Nigeria dependent on fuel importation.

Ude-Umanta further accused some oil unions and importers of colluding with foreign interests to frustrate the Dangote Refinery project, warning that inaction could discourage future investors. “If they succeed in killing the Dangote Refinery, no investor will ever bring money here again,” he cautioned.

He also described recent actions of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) as “economic terrorism,” alleging that the union’s interference in refinery operations was part of a broader plot to derail Nigeria’s refining ambitions. “What PENGASSAN did was not unionism—it was sabotage,” he said, urging the Federal Government to take decisive action against such acts.

Ude-Umanta called on President Tinubu, who doubles as the Minister of Petroleum Resources, to ensure that local refineries are granted access to crude oil at the same rate sold to foreign refiners to sustain their operations and boost investor confidence.

Speaking in the same vein, Comrade Maishanu described the rally as a patriotic demand for economic freedom. “Importers fear local refining because it will expose their fraud and end their control over fuel prices,” he said, accusing the cartel of deliberately blocking the sale of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Jet A1 fuel from local producers to sustain inflated prices.

He commended Dangote Refinery for its positive impact on the local market, noting that prices of petrol and diesel had already begun to decline. “Nigerians are starting to breathe fresh air from this refining revolution,” Maishanu stated, urging the President to remain steadfast in his reform agenda.

The protest ended peacefully with chants of “Long live Dangote Refinery! Long live Nigeria!” as participants vowed to continue nationwide mobilisation until, in their words, “every saboteur of Nigeria’s economic progress is crushed.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has strongly opposed reported moves by the state government to revisit the alleged Offa robbery case involving former Governor Abubakar Bukola Saraki and others.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the party made its position known during an emergency press conference in Ilorin on Friday, describing the development as politically motivated and unjust.

PDP spokesman, Comrade Olushola Adewara, said the alleged plan to reopen the case amounts to an attempt to politicise a matter that has already been concluded by the courts.

He alleged that the move was targeted at dragging Saraki into a case in which, according to him, legal authorities had previously found no evidence linking him to the incident.

Adewara referenced earlier legal opinions from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, which reportedly stated that Saraki was not connected to the robbery case.

The party insisted that suspects in the case had already been prosecuted and convicted, with judgments upheld at appellate levels, while the matter is currently before the Supreme Court.

PDP urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to focus on governance rather than what it described as attempts to revive old political narratives.

It also called on security agencies to monitor the situation closely, warning that such actions could heighten political tension in the state.

The party further appealed to residents, especially families of victims in Offa, not to allow their pain to be used for political purposes.

He said: “I will be running for governor in the 2027 governorship election. I have come to plead with you to set up a small committee… to determine how we can collaborate to make this happen.”

He also questioned whether Ogun State would experience a “coronation” or a competitive election process, urging stakeholders to allow open political contest.

The PDP chieftain noted that Ogun West’s long-standing exclusion from producing a governor is a legitimate grievance, but stressed that aspirations must still be tested through competition.

He advocated issue-based campaigns ahead of 2027, rejecting “money politics” and challenging aspirants to public debates on governance.

Showunmi maintained that he has no history of violence or political thuggery, insisting the election should be centred on ideas and development plans for the state.

In response, IPAC leadership and other political actors at the event called for collaboration and careful selection of leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.
