Mary Njoku Speaks Out: ‘Men Should Love the Woman She’s Becoming, Not Who She Was’

According to Nivo News, Njoku explained that postpartum depression often arises from a deep emotional transformation, as many women grieve the version of themselves they were before motherhood while adjusting to their new identity.
She emphasised that genuine love during this stage involves accepting and appreciating the woman one’s partner has become, instead of yearning for who she used to be. Njoku encouraged men to value their partners’ evolution, noting that relationships naturally transform as couples move through different phases of life together.
The actress added that empathy, patience, and emotional support from men can significantly strengthen relationships and foster deeper connections during the postpartum period.
“Postpartum depression is mourning the death of the girl you once were and learning to embrace the birth of the woman you are becoming,” Njoku stated. “Motherhood is as real as it gets. So, to truly love the mother of your children, stop trying to revive the girl she once was—she is gone. Instead, get to know the woman she has become. Look at the bright side: you get to love different women at different stages of your relationship. Nature has given variety all along. Enjoy!” she added.
