EFCC Operatives Defy Order, Conduct 3 a.m. Raid in Suleja Amid Ban on Night Operations

Published

Suleja, Niger State — In what appears to be a direct violation of recent orders, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) carried out a 3 a.m. raid in the APC Quarters area of Suleja. The operation was captured on CCTV, showing the use of two Coaster buses by the agents, despite a formal ban on night sting operations by EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

What the Footage Reveals

  • CCTV recordings obtained by SaharaReporters show operatives arriving at approximately 3 a.m. in two Coaster buses, forcefully entering homes in the APC Quarters in Suleja.
  • Residents say the agents broke into houses without warning, carted away personal items, and made arrests—some of which they later said were based on intelligence pointing to “internet fraudsters.”
  • Several people detained claim they were innocent and held for days before being released. “A man was arrested … he was in their custody for four days before he was released. He is not even guilty of their claims,” a resident said.

Ban on Night Raids & Public Outcry

In November 2023, EFCC issued a directive banning night sting operations across all its commands. The order was allegedly made in reaction to public backlash after EFCC operatives raided hostels at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, where 69 students were arrested in an early morning swoop.

However, the Suleja raid suggests that on-ground operatives might be ignoring or circumventing this internal directive.

Residents Speak Out & Demand Accountability

Fear and outrage have gripped the Suleja community, with some residents forced to temporarily leave their homes to avoid being targeted. One person said, “People’s houses are burgled … they do not knock on your doors, they break into them, and it is scary.”

Many called for action from authorities and oversight bodies, demanding that operatives who defy the ban be held responsible and that victims be compensated.

Why This Raid Matters

  • Credibility of EFCC leadership: If operatives flout the chairman’s directive with impunity, it raises questions about internal discipline and chain of command.
  • Human rights concerns: Raiding homes in the middle of the night, breaking doors, and detaining people—some of whom claim innocence—could amount to abuse of power.
  • Precedent setting: This event might set a dangerous standard that night operations are allowable when deemed “necessary,” undermining the ban.
  • Public trust risk: Such actions risk eroding public confidence in the EFCC, especially if perceived as targeting political opponents or operating with impunity.

‘Kwankwaso Is More Experienced Than Peter Obi’ – Buhari’s Ex-Aide Declares.

Ahmad made the assertion in a post on his X handle, maintaining that Kwankwaso’s decision to accept the position of running mate should be seen as an act of political modesty rather than an indication that he is less qualified than Obi.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to the former presidential aide, the relationship between the two politicians should be viewed as one of equals rather than that of a superior and a subordinate.

“To be entirely candid, the political dynamic between Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi ought to be characterised as one of collegiality between peers, rather than a hierarchy of principal and subordinate,” he wrote.

He added, “The choice to assume a deputy role beneath Obi ought to be interpreted as a testament to political modesty.”

Making a case for Kwankwaso’s political experience, Ahmad recalled that the former Kano State governor served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives before Obi became a prominent figure in national politics.

He also noted that Kwankwaso governed Kano State, which he described as Nigeria’s most populous and politically influential state, for two terms and served as a federal minister.

“If we are assessing political experience, Sen. Kwankwaso probably has a longer and more impressive political background than Peter Obi,” Ahmad stated.

In contrast, the former presidential aide argued that Obi’s major public office experience was limited to his tenure as governor of Anambra State.

“Unlike other candidates, Peter Obi was just a former governor of Anambra State,” he wrote.
