The crackdown not only led to the death of Maidawa and his foot soldiers but also resulted in the arrest of 32 criminal suspects, the rescue of 22 kidnapped victims, and the recovery of a large cache of arms, ammunition, and logistics supplies.
Military sources disclosed that Maidawa, who had long terrorized communities in Kogi East and Kwara State, was killed during a fierce firefight in Kogi State when troops under Operation EGWU EKE ATITE III repelled an attempted attack in Isanlu, Yagba West Local Government Area. Recovered items from the battlefield included AK-47 rifles, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, motorcycles, mobile phones, and other equipment.
In other operations within the same period, troops dismantled Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) hideouts in Abia and Imo States, arresting several suspects, including the killer of the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Afikpo.
Elsewhere, troops in Kebbi State ambushed terrorists along the Salka-Kinke-Makurdi road, killing two and rescuing eight kidnap victims. In Kaduna, security operatives intercepted ransom deliveries, foiled kidnapping attempts, and neutralized several bandits. Arrests were also made in Zangon Kataf involving suspects with over ₦1.3 million believed to be ransom payments.
In Borno State, troops ambushed Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters, killing five, while several others were arrested, including a tax collector who served as part of the terrorists’ intelligence network. In the South East, a foot soldier of IPOB/ESN was neutralized, while in the South South, illegal oil refining sites were destroyed, with thousands of litres of stolen crude oil recovered.
Additionally, troops in Benue, Taraba, Sokoto, and Kano States arrested arms suppliers, collaborators, and rescued more kidnapped victims, further tightening the military’s grip on criminal networks across the country.
According to military authorities, the latest wave of coordinated assaults signals a renewed determination to dismantle terrorist, insurgent, and criminal syndicates threatening Nigeria’s security.
