According to Nivo News, the National Freedom Party (NFP) has strongly criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for refusing to register it as a political party, describing the commission’s decision as unjust and procedurally flawed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The party revealed at a press briefing in its national secretariat in Abuja that INEC rejected its application on the grounds that its proposed logo, which features a zebra, bears resemblance to the horse emblem of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Engr. Donnie Oluwafemi Akingbade, the National Publicity Secretary of the NFP, disclosed that the party submitted its application for registration in July 2023 and duly received an acknowledgment from INEC. However, after more than two years of silence, the commission informed them that the application had been declined because of the alleged similarity in logos.

Akingbade argued that the NFP met all the statutory requirements as provided under the Electoral Act, citing relevant sections of the law to back the party’s claim. He insisted that INEC’s rejection was unfair and inconsistent with the legal framework governing party registration.

Also speaking, the Protem National Chairman of the party, Dr. Anthony Harmattan, appealed to President Bola Tinubu as well as the international community to intervene in the matter, warning that any further delay in granting registration could undermine preparations for the 2027 general elections.
