ADC Clears Air: Zoning Discussions Yet to Begin.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified that it has not reached any decision on zoning its presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections. According to Nivo News, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the clarification while dismissing claims of broken promises made by the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Abdullahi stated that the ADC had not made any commitment regarding zoning, stressing that “you cannot break a promise you have not made.” He described Tanko’s comments as misleading and destabilising, insisting that the party leadership has never discussed zoning.
Tanko had earlier criticised the ADC’s non-committal stance on zoning the presidential ticket to the South, arguing that issues of equity and fairness should guide such decisions if the party hopes to win the 2027 polls. He also said the Obidient Movement, which backs former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, was concerned about how principal offices within the coalition would be shared.
Responding, Abdullahi, a former Sports Minister, dismissed Tanko’s remarks as divisive, questioning whether he consulted Obi before making such statements. He maintained that Tanko does not hold any formal role in the coalition and therefore lacked the authority to speak on its behalf.
Abdullahi emphasised that while the ADC is open to concessions where necessary, it will not tolerate individuals who misrepresent the party’s internal processes. He added that Tanko’s comments did not reflect Obi’s position, reiterating that zoning discussions have not taken place among ADC leaders.
Meanwhile, the ADC recently asked all its prominent members to demonstrate commitment by resigning from their current parties and moving fully into the ADC. The caucus meeting where this resolution was reached had in attendance former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, though Obi was notably absent.
