Husband Claims Wife Buried Illegally After Being Wrongly Accused Of Her Death
Dr. David Love, husband of the late Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export, Mrs. Shimite Love, has stated that autopsy reports have cleared him of any involvement in his wife’s death. He alleged that some of his in-laws physically assaulted him and that he was detained for five days by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Team in connection with the case. Speaking in Abuja, he read from a statement titled “Concrete Truth About the Death of My Precious Wife, Chief (Mrs) Shimite Winifred Love.”
Dr. Love explained that on April 18, 2025, his wife experienced chest and stomach pains, similar to a previous incident in 2024. She declined hospitalization, and a pharmacist treated her at home, administering drips and monitoring her condition over two days. Unfortunately, in the early hours of April 21, her condition worsened, and she was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead around 4 a.m.
He said the autopsy revealed that her death resulted from long-term hypertension and related health complications, ruling out any foul play. “Despite the autopsy and toxicology reports, some family members publicly accused me of killing her,” Dr. Love said.
Dr. Love further alleged that his wife was buried without his consent and claimed the IGP Monitoring Team was complicit in the illegal release of her body. He praised the Delta State Police at the GRA Division and State Headquarters for handling the case professionally but criticized the Monitoring Unit for overstepping its jurisdiction. He called for disciplinary action against members of the team and requested that his late wife’s phone, currently in their custody, be returned to him.
Additionally, Dr. Love appealed to the Delta State government to ensure his four-year-old daughter, Sheila Obiajulu Uyor Oluwashayo, currently in the care of his in-laws, is returned to him.
