Hatton was found dead at his home in Hyde, northwest England. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that his death is not being treated as suspicious. A spokesperson said officers responded to a call from a member of the public at 6:45 a.m. local time and discovered the body of a 46-year-old man, adding that there are currently no indications of foul play.

Nicknamed “The Hitman,” Hatton won multiple world titles in the light-welterweight division and one at welterweight. Known for his aggressive fighting style, he was one of the most celebrated British boxers of his generation, finishing his career with 45 wins from 48 professional bouts. Hatton’s post-retirement years included a brief return to the ring in 2012, which ended in a defeat to Ukraine’s Vyacheslav Senchenko. He later overcame personal challenges, including family disputes and a legal case with former trainer Billy Graham, to become a successful coach, mentoring Zhanat Zhakiyanov to a world bantamweight title in 2017. In 2022, he also participated in a non-scoring exhibition bout against Marco Antonio Barrera.

Throughout his life, Hatton was open about his struggles with mental health following his retirement. In July, he revealed plans to return to professional boxing for a bout against Eisa Al Dah in Dubai scheduled for December.

Laycon also spoke about how he got opportunities in the film industry after the show, explaining that most producers approached him because of his fame from BBNaija rather than any proven acting experience.
