Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State on Saturday defied heavy rainfall to participate in the party’s ward congresses, electing new executives and delegates across all 192 wards.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the exercise in Oredo Wards I, II, and III in Benin City was peaceful, with enthusiastic members turning out in large numbers to cast their votes.
Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the state caretaker chairman of the PDP, monitored the process alongside members of the ward congress electoral committee from Abuja. He described the turnout as a reflection of the party’s resilience and growing strength.
“The ward congresses were very peaceful. Members of the PDP were vibrant and active, electing 17-member executives in the wards we visited. From what we saw, we are so excited and happy, and we cannot thank our members enough for their enthusiasm,” Aziegbemi said.
He admitted that he was initially uncertain about the outcome but was impressed by the commitment of members who braved the rain to participate. “I’ll be honest with you, I was a little jittery when I went with the panel to some wards, but I was pleasantly surprised at the turnout. As early as 7:30 a.m., people were already on the ground to cast their votes. We believe the PDP is rising and ready to give the APC a run for their money,” he added.
Aziegbemi further expressed optimism that what he described as the failures of the ruling government at both federal and state levels would give the PDP a strong chance to reclaim Edo in the 2027 elections.
The Chairman of the PDP Ward Congress Electoral Committee, Mr. Tariga Tulagha, also commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise. He noted that the elections were free of violence and in full compliance with the law despite the downpour.
Tulagha dismissed speculations of internal crisis within the party, stressing that unity was evident in the voting process. “We observed a unity of purpose. If there was division, it would have shown during the voting. When motions were raised, the support was 100 per cent, with no dissenting voices. So, the issue of factions does not apply here,” he said.
