The results show APC dominance in key councils such as Ahoada East (84,125 votes), Andoni (126,181), Khana (156,027), and Okrika (82,285), while PDP triumphed in Emohua (115,380), Obio/Akpor (328,888), and ONELGA (51,051).

Political developments surrounding the poll have also raised questions after Rivers State’s suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his top allies were absent during the voting exercise. Reports indicate that key supporters, including Chief of Staff Edison Ehie and Secretary to the State Government Tammy Danagogo, did not show up at their polling units. Additionally, 23 former council chairmen previously sacked by the Supreme Court also boycotted the election.

A loyalist of the governor, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that the results were predetermined, stating, “We knew the winners before the election started. So why waste our time voting?” He further disclosed that Governor Fubara is currently out of the country and expected to return early next month. The source added that “most of the developments today stem from an agreement brokered between Nyesom Wike and Governor Fubara in the presence of the President. They have taken power away from the governor.”

Tension In Court As Yahaya Bello Case Awaits April 24 Decision On EFCC Motion.

Published

on

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed April 24, 2026, for ruling on an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeking permission to confront its witness with his earlier statement in the ongoing trial of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The judge set the date on Thursday during proceedings in the alleged money laundering case involving the former governor.

The EFCC’s counsel, Mr Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), had sought to re-present Exhibit 46, the earlier statement of the 12th prosecution witness, Abdullahi Jamilu, in an attempt to address inconsistencies between his oral testimony and written statement.

However, defence counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN), objected, arguing that the prosecution must first seek the court’s permission to declare the witness hostile before attempting to contradict him with prior statements.

According to the defence, the witness had maintained in court that certain financial transactions involving Abba Adaudu were carried out only at designated offices, and any attempt to use his previous statement without following due process would be improper.

The prosecution countered that the document was only being used to refresh the witness’s memory, citing relevant provisions of the Evidence Act that allow a witness to review earlier statements while testifying.

The defence, however, maintained that the move amounted to an attempt to improperly contradict the witness without first obtaining the court’s leave, referencing legal precedents to support its position.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Nwite adjourned the matter to April 24, 2026, for ruling on whether the EFCC can re-present the exhibit and for continuation of the trial.

During earlier testimony, the witness, who is linked to Kumfayakum Global Limited, denied making certain cash deposits at Access Bank’s Lokoja branch, while confirming other transactions involving entities such as Keyless Nature Limited and Ejadams Essence Limited, which he attributed to Abba Adaudu.

The court will decide on the admissibility of the contested evidence when proceedings resume.
