American Sentenced To Life For Brutal Murder Of Rising Nigerian Boxing Star
According to Nivo News, a 37-year-old man, Nicholas Giroux, has been sentenced to life imprisonment plus 20 years for the murder of Nigerian-American boxer, Isaiah Olugbemi, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Giroux received the sentence on Friday afternoon from Judge Richard Trunnell of the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to first-degree murder and use of a firearm in a violent crime. The consecutive prison terms will be served in the Division of Corrections.
Olugbemi, 27, a promising amateur boxing talent and father, was fatally shot on June 17, 2024, in the 500 block of Meadowmist Way, Odenton. Police discovered him with multiple gunshot wounds, and he later died at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. An autopsy confirmed he was killed by gunfire.
Surveillance footage captured Giroux approaching Olugbemi, shooting him repeatedly until he collapsed, and then firing three more rounds before fleeing. Investigators recovered 9mm cartridge casings at the scene. Authorities also linked the attack to a prior confrontation in which Giroux brandished a handgun during a neighborhood cookout.
Following his arrest, Giroux confessed to the murder and directed police to the firearm used. State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess condemned the crime as “cruel and senseless,” praising the work of Assistant State’s Attorney Carolynn Grammas and homicide detectives who handled the case. She emphasized that Olugbemi’s death robbed the community of a dedicated father and rising athlete, adding that the sentence should bring some measure of justice to his grieving family and friends.
