The governor made the declaration during a special thanksgiving service at the Government House Chapel in Benin City to mark his 55th birthday. Represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo recalled that just two days after assuming office in November 2024, Edo State was hit by a violent cult clash that claimed over 20 lives.

“News of that tragedy reached me in Ondo barely two days after I assumed office. Right there, I vowed to fight cultism, kidnapping, and other criminal activities to a standstill. Nine months on, by God’s grace and with the support of Edo people, we are winning that war,” the governor said.

He noted that his administration took over at a turbulent time but has since restored stability and renewed public confidence in government. “This is a government that makes promises and keeps them. Whether in security, roads, schools, or healthcare, we are delivering for the people of Edo State,” he added.

The thanksgiving service was attended by top government officials, advisers, and religious leaders who praised the governor’s leadership style and developmental strides. Special Adviser on Electronic Media, Paul Ezenwa, lauded Okpebholo’s performance, saying he has surpassed the expectations of many.

Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Andrew Iyamu, described his appointment as purely merit-based, noting that major infrastructure projects—including roads, schools, and flyovers—are springing up across Edo’s three senatorial districts.

Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Godswill Inegbe, described the governor as a humble leader whose Christian values reflect in his governance. Religious leaders also commended Okpebholo’s courage in confronting cultism, with Reverend Ezele Frank calling it the first time any governor has directly taken on the menace.

Apostle Sule Farade, Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, described the governor’s emergence as divinely ordained, declaring that his administration will fulfill God’s plan for Edo State.

The service concluded with prayers for the governor’s health, wisdom, and strength, alongside petitions for peace and prosperity in the state.
