“I Take Full Responsibility,” Says NRC MD After Train Accident
According to Nivo News, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, has accepted full responsibility for Tuesday’s derailment of an Abuja–Kaduna passenger train shortly after departing from Abuja. Speaking on a live interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, Opeifa assured Nigerians that investigations into the incident would be thorough, transparent, and aimed at preventing future occurrences.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
“As the Managing Director and Chief Executive, I take full responsibility,” Opeifa declared. “When it comes to safety, there is no room for indifference. Once something like this happens, the chief executive must own it — and I do.”
The NRC chief disclosed that no fatalities were recorded, describing the outcome as a “near miss,” but confirmed that four passengers sustained serious injuries while two others were treated and discharged. He added that all 618 passengers on board would be contacted to monitor their post-trauma well-being.
Opeifa emphasized that such an incident should never have happened, pledging that the corporation would intensify safety measures across all rail corridors. He cited the recent shutdown of the Warri–Itakpe route for major track repairs as proof of the NRC’s commitment to operational safety.
Asked if sabotage was suspected, Opeifa declined to comment, saying it would be premature to preempt the findings of the ongoing investigation by the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB). He assured Nigerians that the Abuja–Kaduna corridor remains under close surveillance by the military, with no recent cases of vandalism or terrorist attacks reported along the route.
The NRC boss explained that the NSIB would first declare the derailment site open for reconstruction before a full safety audit is conducted to determine when train services will resume. He projected that once clearance is given, repairs should take no longer than 30 days.
The derailment, which occurred around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, caused panic among passengers, with witnesses describing a chaotic scramble to safety. In response, the NRC suspended operations on the Abuja–Kaduna line pending the conclusion of the investigation.
Opeifa further dismissed claims that the trains were poorly maintained, confirming that refunds have already been processed for all affected passengers. He noted that technical staff, working alongside the NSIB and other agencies, have been deployed to the site to conduct a full assessment.
The Abuja–Kaduna rail line has experienced previous incidents, including a derailment near Kubwa in January 2023, though no casualties were recorded at the time.

FROM BEHIND BARS! Uwazuruike Drops Bombshell: Nnamdi Kanu Is Recruiting Igbo Youth For Violence From Prison!.
Ralph Uwazuruike, an agitator for the Biafran nation, has accused Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), of continuing to recruit Igbo youths for violent activities from his prison cell in Sokoto. -
Advocacy for Amnesty: He questioned why IPOB members cannot renounce violence and seek government amnesty and rehabilitation, similar to the programs offered to repentant terrorists and bandits in northern Nigeria.
-
Context of Allegations: Uwazuruike’s comments appear to be prompted by recent social media videos featuring hooded, armed militants who claim loyalty to Kanu and threaten further violence in the South East to secure his release.
