In a statement shared on his Instagram page Tuesday, the veteran journalist linked the zoning policy to the influence of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, claiming no force could prevent Wike from deploying PDP structures to serve Tinubu’s interests. He alleged that the party had “shot itself in the leg” by caving to what he described as “cheap and puerile blackmail” from opposition figures secretly working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Momodu urged the PDP to stop misleading Nigerians, dismissing claims about potential presidential ambitions of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Labour Party’s 2023 candidate Peter Obi, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as “blatant lies from the pit of hell.” He argued that the PDP was engaging in hypocrisy, pointing to past political precedents where zoning principles were ignored when it suited the party’s interests.
He further asserted that Tinubu would ultimately emerge as a joint candidate of both the APC and PDP, adding that Wike’s dominance over PDP structures had already secured this outcome. Momodu also criticized the party’s leadership for celebrating what he viewed as a capitulation to dictatorial influence, alleging that governors had become too intimidated to challenge Wike’s directives or protect their own members, including Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Momodu questioned the integrity of the PDP’s justification for ceding power to the South, recalling that no such efforts were made to protect northern interests following the death of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, nor were objections raised when President Tinubu ran on a Muslim-Muslim ticket. He concluded that the party’s selective interpretation of fairness “stinks to high heavens.”
