Petrol Prices Soar To Record Levels Despite Global Oil Slump – NBS

According to the latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the average retail price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly called petrol, climbed by 33.02 percent year-on-year to ₦1,024.99 per litre in July 2025, compared to the same month in 2024. Despite the sharp annual increase, the report noted a slight month-on-month decline, as prices dropped by 1.22 percent from June’s average of ₦1,037.66 per litre.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The NBS “Petrol Price Watch” showed that Jigawa State recorded the highest average price nationwide at ₦1,107.52 per litre, followed by Lagos at ₦1,100.29 and Sokoto at ₦1,100.00. In contrast, Zamfara posted the lowest average pump price at ₦884.63 per litre, with Yobe at ₦950.60 and Kogi at ₦986.67. A regional breakdown revealed that the North West zone posted the highest average price at ₦1,035.85 per litre, while the North East recorded the lowest at ₦1,017.65 per litre.

Independent market checks indicate that petrol prices in several major cities are showing signs of easing, in line with a recent drop in global crude oil prices. As of Monday, crude traded at $63.55 per barrel, with Brent crude at $67.69. Retail pump prices in Lagos currently range between ₦865 and ₦875 per litre, while Abuja residents are paying slightly higher, between ₦890 and ₦910 per litre, industry sources confirmed.
