“Arne Slot Fires Tactical Warning After Liverpool’s 3-2 Thriller Against Newcastle”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has criticised Newcastle United’s approach during his team’s dramatic 3-2 Premier League triumph at St James’ Park, admitting he was “not too sure” he had just watched a conventional football match.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The points were secured thanks to 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha, who came off the bench to score a 100th-minute winner in a match riddled with fouls, stoppages, and contentious moments. Opta statistics revealed that the ball was in play for only 40.8% of the game, marking the lowest figure in the Premier League since February 2010.
“It was set-piece after set-piece, long throws. It didn’t involve much tactical play,” Slot told Sky Sports. “But I liked how our team stood strong under pressure.”
Liverpool initially took the lead before Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon was sent off for a reckless challenge on Virgil van Dijk. Despite being reduced to ten men, Newcastle rallied from a 2-0 deficit to level the score at 2-2, producing a tense climax to the encounter.
Slot admitted that Newcastle’s style posed a significant challenge. “The first 30–45 minutes were very difficult. We went 1-0 up and didn’t collapse,” he said. “Even with Newcastle down to ten players, it wasn’t easy. When a goalkeeper takes every free-kick, having a numerical advantage doesn’t always help. That’s why closing the game 2-0 was so tough.”
The match saw a total of 32 fouls, the highest in a Premier League fixture this season. Gordon, dismissed shortly before half-time, later apologised on social media, stating: “I was just trying to create energy in the game and mistimed the tackle. I would never intend to hurt someone on purpose. Virgil and I spoke afterwards, and he understands.”
