Army Smashes Benue Kidnap Gang, Frees 27 Hostages In Daring Rescue
According to Nivo News, the Nigerian Army has rescued 27 passengers abducted by kidnappers in Amoda community, Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, during a coordinated raid by troops of Operation Whirl Stroke. Military authorities revealed that this breakthrough forms part of a broader nationwide counter-terrorism and anti-crime campaign. Within the same period, troops neutralized 15 terrorists, apprehended 42 suspects, and freed 30 kidnapped victims across different regions of the country.
In the North East, soldiers engaged Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters in Dikwa, Gwoza, Bama, Banki, and Gujba, eliminating several insurgents and seizing rifles, grenades, explosives, motorcycles, and communication devices during the fierce battles.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Governor Hyacinth Alia has approved resolutions passed by the Benue State House of Assembly to suspend three senior government officials. A statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, confirmed the Governor’s decision, which affects the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Maxwell Ogiri; the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Mrs. Grace Adagba; and the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Michael Uper. All three will serve a one-month suspension.
Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the rule of law, due process, and the principles of separation of powers, commending the legislature for exercising its constitutional oversight role. He assured residents of Benue State that his government remains focused on transparency, accountability, and good governance.
